Here now, the coffee shop at the former Showboat in a photo shot in 1968. The hotel, the first resort within city limits, featured 100 rooms on two floors when it opened in 1954. One of its gimmicks was a 49 cent breakfast special that got locals to visit the coffee shop. The hotel also featured a 24-lane bowling alley, and by 1979, the Showboat featured the third largest bowling alley in the United States with its 106 lanes.
The resort remained the Showboat until 1990, when it was sold and became Castaways. By the time it shuttered in 2004, it featured 445 modern guest rooms in addition to an 80,000-square-foot casino, three restaurants, a showroom and Las Vegas' largest bingo parlor. The hotel was imploded in 2006.
